Volunteers On Tour

Advance Planning Visit (APV) 3.05 – 6.05. 2019

2 participants from each country will come to the hosting country, that is Cyprus, for a meeting where activities, places, methodologies and logistics of the project and of the following activities will be discussed. We want to be able to create the best conditions for all involved and will therefore focus on;

• Review the setting so the volunteer feels comfortable and in order for him/she to function both mentally and
physically

• Create a good communication between all parties (receiving organisation, sending organisation and volunteer) • Get a
clear image of the organisation and its daily activities

• Plan together with all the parties on how the tasks will appear in detail

• Plan and discuss crisis management and make a common risk analysis for the
coming volunteer period

• Look into suitable aims for the volunteer during ESC

• Plan how the evaluation will look like so that it runs through the entire volunteer period, it is important that there is a
dialogue between all parties in order to find a way to make the most of the experience on an ongoing basis. Youth pass and ECVET are the summary documents for the project, on the other hand are there various additional methods to gain experience and evaluate in an inspirational way; movie, diary, blog, etc.

Long Term 6 Months Project 180 days – 15.05.2019 – 15.11.2019

3 volunteers will be hosted for 6 months in Cyprus, beginning on 15.05.2019 – 15.11.2019

The volunteers will be working with us in PlanBe and we will be working with each local community for a period of time in order to
experience the informal learning of the traditional professions of each village and to help with the preparation of the different
agricultural events/festivals in the mountain villages of Cyprus, at Troodos Geopark.

The volunteers will interact both with the youngsters of the rural areas who live in the local community but also with the elder people
of the community who will be invited to demonstrate traditional professions and recipes related to local products produced in the
different villages. Additionally, the volunteers will help in supporting and in the organisation of the different festivals regarding traditional professions and homemade products in the different villages in Troodos Geopark like in the Lavender festival in Platres, in the Grape Feast in Koilani and Arsos villages etc. Additionally, the volunteers will create and implement activities from scratch as for example arts and crafts, traditional ways of making different homemade products and workshops for event planning and management designed especially for NEET youth and youngsters with fewer opportunities.

Short Term Project 8.10 – 31.10. 2019

10 volunteers will be hosted from 8.10 – 31.10. 2019 months in Cyprus.
This project brings together European participants with different backgrounds, as well as young people with fewer opportunities (economical, geographical, social cultural obstacles) and through team building, personal development, and active citizenship activities it increases cultural awareness and understanding.

The project also involves interaction with the eldest of the community and hence contributes to bridging the intergeneration gap. For example, the elder of the community will be invited to demonstrate traditional professions and recipes related to local products.
Moreover this is a ESC project that emphasises our cultural and our European identity and promotes European citizenship and friendships. Hands-on activities such as tree planting and fruits harvesting. Participants will have the opportunity to experience the traditional way of harvesting and go through by doing, the whole process for the production of agricultural products. Participants will be divided into groups that will be in charge to assist one local farmer. Upon guidance they will set the nets, harvest the fruits without hurting the tree.

These hands-on workshops promote team-working, communication, leadership skills, and problem-solving skills and are a great way to include people with cultural differences that will connect with each other by doing and learning.
